Thank Dai it's Friday

Yes, I know it's technically Saturday. I got back from the pub a bit later than expected!

Anyway..... here's strip 1404 from Feb 2002. The incredible shrinking gran. Would make a good film I reckon.

6 Music

Looks like my favourite radio station may be for the chop

It's been the constant soundtrack to my working day (and night) since it started in 2002 (although the arrival of Mr Lamb for the morning show did cause me to tune elsewhere while he broadcast)

Anyway, the 'Save6music' appeal is up and running, so feel free to add your support on Facebook

Shrewsbury Cartoonists

Here's a curio - an illustration from 2004 for the Shrewsbury Cartoon Festival. I was asked by the organisers to draw a line of cartoonists in the shape of the Festival Logo, which is in turn based on the route the River Severn takes through the town.

I added a few cartoonist friends I know to the line, (although I think my caricature skills have improved since I drew this... :) Probably only a question for cartoonists who actually know these people, but can you spot any of them? No prizes, except the satisfaction of knowing you could decipher my artwork.

Strange Looking Bloke Wednesday

Here is this week's SLBloke. He's been shoved into the bezel of my monitor and doesn't look particularly pleased about it. I'm thinking of calling him Dell. Don't know why.

Nib Nerd: Berol Fineliner and colour added with old and mouldy Magic Markers found in back of pen drawer.

This is strip 2792 from 4 Aug 2007.

This is one for all the home workers out there - myself included. Working from home is great - there are so many benefits ... no tedious commute, no office politics, you can work the hours you want and you don't have to wear a shirt and tie. I wear a cravat and jodhpurs, but that's probably just me.

Sheep calendar cartoon

Here's a cartoon from the 2010 Funny Side of Sheep Calendar. It's the January image, and is one of 12 I drew for the calendar back in 2008. I managed to draw the lot without one Welsh gag, which is quite an achievement I'm sure you'll agree.

I'll post more from this and other calendars in the coming months...

Here's a rejected rough I posted last year. Baaah!

Strip 985, from Oct 2000. I like a nice tune, but when it's pumped out at enough decibels to floor an elephant, that's when I tend to seek out the quieter pubs. I'm a mild and hazy guy....

London cartoon guide

I've updated a piece I'd written for the Cartoonists' Club website in 2006. It's a guide for anyone visiting London and looking for cartoon and comic locations. The club has a monthly meetup in the Cartoonist Pub (Shoe Lane, just off Fleet Street) so I figured it would be good to let members (and anyone else) know what was worth visiting. A few places had moved or unfortunately closed down so it was due an update!

The page is on the CCGB website here and you can download a PDF of the guide here.

Strange Looking Bloke Wednesday

Here's a bloke from 2006. This was done for the CCGB's Jester newsletter after a cartoonists weekend in Stratford, hence the rather tortured Shakespearean quote. It's meant to be a caricaturist who attended named Graham Fowell, so apologies to Graham!

Here's Graham as part of the victorious PCO Eggheads team, rubbing shoulders with Robert Duncan and Martin Rowson! Well done lads!

Nib Nerd Section: Done with a Pentel brush pen. Colour in Photoshop.

Wind turbine cartoon

Here's a cartoon from the current Reader's Digest. Royston Robertson's handy tip for publishing these gags on a blog is to retype the caption underneath, in case people are using an iPhone or something similar. Good idea! So, here to save your eyesight, is the caption.

"You're right, they look a lot bigger from the road..."

Here's a old strip from 30th April 2001. This one's pretty autobiographical. We used to have a car which made a strange whirring sound somewhere near my footrest. I cured this by kicking the panel where the noise was coming from. It would fix it for a day or two but then the noise would return. Cue some more kicking from me. Noise went away. The car packed up not long after.

They should have a 'kicking' section in the Haynes Manual.

Strange Looking Bloke Wednesday

Just back from the pub. Enjoyed a nice lemonade and a few games of cards. I live the rock n roll life! Managed a secret scribble of the bloke sitting at the bar while pretending to write down the scores.

Secret Scribble. Sounds like a 70s cartoon series....
