The Big Draw 2010

I'll once again be taking part in the Big Draw in London. Here's the official blurb: "Join us on 22 and 23 October for 'Make your Mark on the Future: From London Bridge to Tower Bridge'. At our London Highlight event you can choose from thirty activities at eight venues, and collect your free Daler-Rowney art materials. No one is too young or old to take part in this free drawing bonanza."

I'll be running one of the cartoon workshops on Saturday the 23rd (not quite finalised the time details yet!) being held at 'The Scoop' - a public space near Tower Bridge and also this year's location for the annual Battle of the Cartoonists, where teams compete to produce the best banner, while the crowds shout their approval. Great fun!

You can download a flyer for the whole weekend's events here, and I'll hopefully write a bit more about it as the date gets nearer.

Star Wars and Eelus cartoon

Here's a curio from 2007. A bit of background needed perhaps - the pink piece of graffiti in the middle is entitled 'Shat-at' and is by an artist named Eelus who has produced the image in a variety of prints and sprayed on walls. I wondered what Darth Vader would make of it all, and came up with this cartoon.

Never mess with a man who owns a lightsaber.

Comic Jam Panel

Here's a panel from a comic jam back in 2007 on a cartoonists' forum. I was sent the preceding panel and had to carry the story on in any way I saw fit. I would have thought that taken out of context it doesn't make sense, but let's be honest, this kind of thing happens on every episode of the X-Factor.

As the final strip will attest, the story took some interesting turns along the way!

There have been a few other jams before and since, all worth checking out!

Strip 3516 from 1st Dec 2009. This was inspired by a party I attended a few days before. The owner of the club where it was being held would occasionaly sidle up to the table and snaffle a sausage roll or sarnie. Perks of the jobs no doubt. I contemplated performing a citizens arrest, but felt I owed him for providing me with such comic potential!

Thank you surreptitious sausage roll snaffler.

Strange Looking Bloke Wednesday

I saw a clip of a TV series called Spartacus a while back and it looked a bit bonkers. There was an interesting face I caught a glimpse amongst the hack 'n slash though  - no idea who the character or actor was, but he had a face worth adding to Strange Looking Bloke.

Here's another strip from Aug 2010. Tom had an album out recently and the tracks I heard seem to indicate a return to form, or at least a return to the music that he was born to sing - rock 'n roll and gospel. (let's forget 'Sexbomb' ever existed, ok?). From one Ponty boy to another, big respect to Jones the voice.

Strange Looking Bloke Wednesday

I had a package from Amazon, so naturally used it to draw on. Perfectly normal behaviour. That barcode was crying out to become a turtleneck sweater.

A recent strip from Aug 2010. Been perfect weather for kiting today. Except for the rain. And lack of wind. Apart from that, perfect weather.

C'mon Mary Poppins, let's go fly a kite!

Napkin Art

Here's my wife enjoying a glass of wine, while I'm enjoying drawing on a napkin. Apparently Picasso paid for the occasional meal with napkin scribbles. I tried it in Wetherspoons, but they weren't interested. Pah!

Strange Looking Bloke Wednesday

I'm usually absent-mindedly scribbling while watching telly and this quickie was done during the preview for An Idiot Abroad - a new series featuring Karl Pilkington and his perfectly round head. I found the preview hilarious, so have high hopes for the full series.

Strange Looking Bloke Wednesday

Hey, you lucky people - this week's SLB is me! Here I am pulling a particularly attractive face. Hello ladies!
I even had a soul patch (it's like a moustache for people with no spatial awareness) going on under the bottom lip. Good grief...
